Get outdoors this winter to refresh your soul by joining Carpenter Nature Center’s Frosty 40 winter challenge. Research shows that even moderate exercise outdoors can improve your physical, mental and emotional health. Since CNC is turning 40 years old in 2021 we challenge you to walk, run, cross-country ski or snowshoe 40 miles in 40 days between January 1 and March 20, the first day of spring. Choose your own 40-day schedule between January 1st and March 20th. Registration opens December 5th and closes February 8th. The 40 days do not need to be consecutive, the outdoor activities can be done at any location and you can mix up your activities as you like, just keep track of your mileage.

Participate in motivating weekly themes and share the fun when you post on the Frosty Forty Event Page or on social media using the hashtag #Frosty40. Utilize our printable, kid-friendly mileage tracker to meet  your goals!

Trails

You can come to CNC to walk or run on the trails (the south paved loop trail is plowed in the winter) and your registration provides for free use of CNC snowshoes during our open hours. CNC does not have cross-country ski trails but you can check out other places in your area. Afton State Park, Lake Elmo County Park Reserve, and Willow River State Park in Hudson usually have groomed ski trails but you can go to a location that is convenient for you. Turn this into a social activity with your family and friends for an extra benefit or make it one of your New Year’s Resolutions to get some exercise outdoors while supporting Carpenter Nature Center.

The Minnesota Campus is open 8:00 Am – 4:30 PM
