Have you ever wondered what bird banding is all about? Banding records help us learn how long birds live, where they travel, when they migrate and many other interesting facts. CNC has been banding birds for over 30 years. Our bird banders welcome you to see songbirds up close and learn about the birds who share our ecosystem. Adult Moonlight Snowshoe Hike

Enjoy a winter night under the moonlight with a relaxing snowshoe hike at CNC. After the hike, warm up by the fire and enjoy fresh popcorn and hot apple cider. Snowshoes provided or bring your own; dress for the weather. Program Fee: $10.00 per person or $7.00 for "Friends of CNC."

MN Campus Bird Hike

Join expert birder, Kevin Smith, on a morning hike around the Nature Center. Learn to identify birds by sight and sound. Field guides and binoculars are available to use or bring your own. WI Campus Owl Prowl

This time of the year, many of the Midwest’s 12 owl species are vocalizing to attract mates. Explore CNC's WI campus on a guided night hike to look and listen for these owls. Have fun outdoors and make new friends while working to earn badges. Welcome spring by joining the CNC staff in making maple syrup. Hike to the “sugarbush” to tap maple trees, watch the process of turning sap into syrup and sample the final product. The program starts indoors, but be ready to hike in the spring snow and mud. Preschool Story Time: Syrup Season

These programs are designed to introduce children ages 2-5 to nature in a fun and safe environment. In this month's story time, we will be listening to a story about maple syruping, go outside to tap our own maple trees, and sample some maple syrup with a yummy treat! Be sure to RSVP, programs sell out. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Program fee: $5 per child or $3 for "Friends of CNC." No charge for accompanying adult.
